Polly Button

This remarkable folk opera sold out on both nights at the Abbey Theatre back in April. It tells the sad, tragic tale of a woman bowed down by poverty, childbearing and betrayal in 1830s Nuneaton. The story is fascinating to local residents for obvious reasons but for George Eliot enthusiasts it has an extra interest in the fact that Mary Ann Evans was a young girl when the murder took place, and writer Katherine Fear has used George Eliot as a narrator in the action on stage. It works very well.
If you saw it in April you will want to see it again. If you missed it then now is the chance to see it and share in the display of talented musicians and actors bringing a moving and poignant bit of Nuneaton history to life.
